Vilen Galstyan
Popular artist of the RA, Main Ballet-Master
Biography
Born on February 12, 1941, Yerevan. In 1958 he graduated from Yerevan state dance institute. In 1959-1960 he was solo dancer at Tbilisi’s Opera and Ballet theatre named after Paliashvili. In 1960 he has worked at the Opera and Ballet Theatre named after Al. Spendiaryan. In 1969 he was titled main ballet-master at the Opera. From 1974 to 1978 he studied at Moscow’s Lunacharsky’s Ballet-master institute in Professor Zakharov’s class.
From 1997 to 1999 he was professor at Seoul’s National University.
From 2000 till he is executive director of ballet at the Yerevan Opera and Ballet Theatre.

He has directed “Gayane”, “David of Sassoun”, “Queen Sartse”, “Othello”, “Romeo and Juliet”, “Tristan and Igolda”, as well as ballet scenes of “Aida”, “Anush”, “Policteus”, “Almast”. His plays were played worldwide.
Tours
From 1979 to 1988 he has participated with Moscow’s Great Theatre in the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Netherlands, Switzerland, and Japan.
In 2001 he directed the “Argentina” ballet group in Argentina.

Honorable artist of Armenian Soviet Socialist Republic.
First Place in Classical ballet at the international dance competition, Varna.
Movses Khorenatsi Medal.
Holy Mesrop Mashtots Medal.
Special Prize for Armenia’s theatrical artists for their longstanding contribution.
